Student Bowl Rules
ROUND I: Cloistered Non-Competitive Round
1. Non-Competitive Round
2. Each team will be asked the same 10 questions.
3. Consultation between team members is allowed.
4. The team may signal their willingness to answer a question anytime after the moderator has begun to read the question.
5. The moderator will stop reading the question as soon as a team signals its willingness to answer the question.
6. Upon acknowledgment by the moderator, the team has 10 seconds in which to respond to the question.
7. If a question is read in its entirety before a team signals, the moderator will wait 10 seconds before discarding the question.
8. In case of a tie, each of the teams will be asked an additional 5 questions.
9. The question may not be repeated.
10. Correct answers are awarded 10 points.
11. Incorrect answers are penalized 5 points.
12. Once the signal to answer is flashed and the team does not answer the question, they will be penalized 5 points.
13. If the team chooses not to attempt the question, no points will be scored or penalized.
14. Once a team member answers, the answer may not be changed.
15. The eight highest scoring teams will proceed to Round II.
ROUND II: Determination of the Semi-Finalists
Round II consists of the eight teams with the highest scores from Round I competing for a Semi-Finalist position. Four teams from Round II proceed to the Semi-Finals.
1. This round consists of 15 questions.
2. Each team may signal their willingness to answer a question anytime after the moderator has begun to read the question.
3. The moderator will stop reading the question as soon as a team signals its willingness to answer the question.
4. When the signal to answer is flashed, the team must wait to answer the question until acknowledged by the moderator.
5. If a team answers a question, failing to be acknowledged by the moderator, the opposing team will receive 5 points and the question will be discarded.
6. Upon acknowledgement by the moderator, the team has 10 seconds in which to respond to the question.
7. Consultation is allowed between team members.
8. If a question is read in its entirety before a team signals, the moderator will wait 10 seconds before discarding the question.
9. Correct answers are awarded 10 points.
10. Once the signal to answer is flashed and the team does not answer the question, they will be penalized 5 points.
11. If the team chooses not to attempt the question, no points will be scored or penalized.
12. If the opposing team gives an incorrect answer, the other team may elect to answer the question. If this team correctly answers the question, they will be awarded 5 points. If the answer is incorrect, they will be penalized 5 points.
13. If the opposing team signals to answer before the entire question is read and does not answer, or answers incorrectly, they will be penalized according to rules 10 and 11. The other team may then elect to answer the question after it is read in its entirety. If this answer is correct, they will be awarded 5 points and if incorrect, the penalty will be 5 points.
14. Once a team member answers, the answer may not be changed.
15. In case of a tie, the teams will be asked an additional 5 questions.
16. The four winning teams proceed to Round III.
ROUND II Determination of the Semi-Finalists continued..

ROUND III: Semi-Finals
Round III will consist of the winning teams from Round II competing for a
Finalist position. The winners from Round III will compete in the
Championship Round.

OFFICIALS:
The official staff consists of:
1. Three technologist judges with three alternates
2. One moderator
3. One timekeeper
4. Two scorekeepers
5. One recorder
The officials staff, whenever possible, will not be affiliated with any participating school.
